Emergency Contraception (EC) or Plan B, previously called the “Morning After Pill,” is a back-up method of birth control that can be used up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse. A woman may use Emergency Contraception in the following situations:

After a condom breaks or slips off

Birth control pills were missed or you are late on a shot, patch, or ring

Diaphragm or cervical cap were used without a spermicide

IUD came out
-
You were forced to have intercourse against your will
Emergency Contraception is available over the counter at pharmacies in California. The cost is covered by Medi-Cal, Family PACT, and private insurance, but you may be required to pay a $10 consultation fee if you go to the pharmacy without a prescription. To get a prescription:
